Healthy self-esteem is your child’s armour against the challenges of the world. Children who feel good about themselves seem to have an easier time handling conflicts, coping with life, making friends and socialising, resisting negative pressures by making healthy choices. For children who have low self-esteem, challenges can become sources of major anxiety, frustration, suffering, poor academic performance and even early clinical depression. Children who think poorly of themselves have a hard time finding solutions to problems. If they are plagued by self-critical thoughts, such as, ‘I am no good’ or ‘I can’t do anything right’ they become passive, withdrawn or depressed and do not reach their full potential and can even be life-threatening. Does your child display any of the following?
- May not want to try new things
- May frequently speak negatively about him/herself
- May exhibit a low tolerance for frustration
- Giving up easily or waiting for somebody else to take over
- Tend to be over-critical and easily disappointed in themselves and others
- Acts shy around others
- Wishes to be somebody else
- Constantly doubts he /she can achieve anything
- Loses his/her temper easily
- Is pessimistic about the future
- Compares themselves to others and feels inadequate
Then this empowering confidence-building self-esteem workshop is for your child. Joanna Kleovoulou facilitates group work with children from 8-13 years-old to give children an experience to share with others and will learn:
- Self-belief
- Independence
- Coping Skills
- Relating to Others
- Social Skills
- Healthy Choices
- Building Esteem & Resilience
- To Let Go and Release

With a little help, every child can have a healthy self-esteem where their full potential and creativity are revealed for a happier, more fulfilling life.

Bullying is a problem that affects us all. Studies show that people who are abused by their colleagues or peers are at risk for mental health problems, such as low self-esteem, stress, depression, or anxiety, and possible suicide.
Bullies are also at risk for problems as they are violating someone else’s rights. If unattended, it often leads to violent behaviour as the bully grows up. In a US study, it’s estimated that 1 out of 4 children who bully from primary school will have a criminal record by the time they are 30.

You will learn to:
- Understand bullying today – Cyber, Physical, Verbal, Emotional & Sexual
- Look out for the signs
- Know your rights & responsibilities
- To be assertive
- To access support
- Understand the dynamics - why is it happening
- To deal with your child who is the identified bully
- Grow - Life Lessons

StorkTalkMatters: A guide to talk wisely with your child about their sexuality
Facilitator: Joanna Kleovoulou
Pr. No. 0266779 – Clinical Psychologist l Founder
For many parents, raising a child is the most gratifying job—and one of the most challenging. Given the high statistics of sexual crime in South Africa, high sexually transmitted infections and HIV rates, every parent has a responsibility to keep their children safe. That said, every parent has the responsibility and privilege to instil in their children the belief that their bodies, including their sexuality, to be a beautiful, healthy expression and respected part of their existence.
Studies show that children who feel they can talk with their parents about sex and their sexuality are less likely to engage in high-risk behaviour than children who do not feel they can talk with their parents. Children who report having good conversations with their parents about sex are more likely to delay sexual activity, have fewer partners, and use condoms and other contraceptives when they do have sex.
Would you love to:
- Give your child a healthy, positive, respectful view of human intimacy?
- Be able to talk together about THE MOST intimate subject – sexuality– without fear?
- Prevent distorted views of sexuality from the outside world?
- Address Sexual education: a simple way
In this Power Talk you will learn to:
- Explore your own beliefs and values about sex
- Take the initiative – finding teachable moments
- Know when the right time is to talk about your child’s sexuality
- Understand Sexual exploration vs. Sexual Acting out
- Talk more than just the birds and the bees
- Understanding and explaining the body’s reproductive parts
- Explaining menstruation, erection, pregnancy and child birth, sex
- Dealing with self-stimulation
- Dealing with challenging topics (miscarriage, abortion, types of relationships e.g. homosexuality, STI’S/HIV/AIDS, sexual violence, circumcision, dirty talk)
- Keep your child safe
This 2-hour workshop is highly recommended for all parents and caregivers of children between the ages of 3-12yrs old – to empower and guide you to talk wisely to your children about their sexuality and to protect your children.

GriefMatters: Gentle process for Kids who have lost loved ones
Facilitator: Joanna Kleovoulou
Pr. No. 0266779 – Clinical Psychologist l Founder
It is a myth to believe that young children do not get affected by grief and that they do not need to grieve. When a child grieves the loss of a loved one, you might not recognise that they are grieving. Children process and display emotions differently from adults. However, this doesn’t mean the grief is not experienced by our children and that your child isn’t affected by their emotions, thoughts and experiences of loss. Children often seem fine one moment, only to become very upset the next moment, as their brains cannot cope with the sadness for long time periods. Is your child displaying:
- Long periods of denial about losing a loved one.
- Clinginess: school-refusing; separation anxiety; suddenly needing help on tasks they had mastered; more irritable, whiny.
- Developmental Regression: bed-wetting and soiling after toilet-training has been achieved; reverting to crawling; baby-talk; wanting a bottle; sleep disruptions.
- Feelings of Abandonment: children may need constant reassurance that you will not leave them; they may feel more vulnerable to rejection and feelings of betrayal.
- Academic Issues: Older children and teens who display grief may struggle to cope academically, fall behind, trouble focusing, struggle to complete work, failing.
- Concentration difficulties: have trouble solving problems, making decisions, easily distracted or disoriented.
- Sleep difficulties: may want to sleep with their caregivers; an increase in nightmares or dreams about the person who died; insomnia or develop a fear of death which creates an avoidance of sleep.
- Anxiety: children and teens may start worrying about most things, and especially about others they love who may die.
- Guilt It’s common for kids to blame themselves for a loved one’s death.
- Behavioural problems: They may begin acting out in school, talking back at home or acting inward by withdrawing or engaging in self-harming activities. Teenagers may engag in risky behaviours, such as sexual activity at an earlier age, or unprotected sex, vaping, smoking, alcohol-use or taking drugs.
